What is GriefInCommon.com and how does it work?
Grief in Common is a free website designed to connect those who are grieving based on background and similar circumstances of loss. We have forums where members can see and share their stories and find others to connect with through the loneliness and isolation of grief. While the website is NOT a dating website it does allow for a similar “matching” experience where you can search to connect with others, based on the criteria that is important to you.
How is it different from other grief support?
Unlike other grief support, we recognize the need to connect with those who have had a loss similar to your own. Those who are grieving a child will typically find better support from other parents who have lost a child. Those who have lost a loved one to suicide may find that others who have had a similar loss will understand better what they're going through.
I want to post but don't know if I should add to an existing thread or start a new one.
Your story is unique and we want to be sure you have a place to tell it. You are welcome to participate in as many forums that apply to you, but I always suggest commenting on an existing thread IN ADDITION to the new one you may start. Commenting on an existing thread will alert all those who have already commented and you're likely to get more responses.
Is Grief in Common the same as a crisis hotline?
No - while the website is available to utilize all day and every day, it is not intended to take the place of professional help or crisis support. If you are looking for professional help in times of crisis please reach out to the National Suicide Prevention Lifeline at 1-800-273-8255 or https://suicidepreventionlifeline.org/
