I lost 3 best women friends of between 40 and 20 years of friendship this summer of 2025. Last summer they were there, we talked walked shared. Now they are gone.
Cancers, a sudden stroke, two friends were near by in the same city, we shared work issues , ( I am in my 80's but still work full time as a therapist) they were therapists too. We shared getting old stuff, laughed about it, complained about it, the other was in Switzerland, a friend for 40 years I knew from by years of living there. I presently live in Montreal, where i practice and live in French and English. But I was born in the States and left at age 20 .

all my friends were sort of international like me, many of my clients are too. My work still brings meaning to my life, so does having a little dog to care for and walk regularly.I'm lucky for both those things. But the gap is great, the long walks together, the long phone calls, calling one to say how upsetting it was that the other was so sick. All gone, I seem to sway between numbness, incredulity that they are actually all gone, and great sadness. I i know it is in the order of things as you enter these senior years. Body losses, old ways of doing things lost, but the loss of dear friends who were always there, camarades in this road called Life, is a very big bummer.
