Karen, did you see the movie, Babe,
in the late 90s? It's part animated, about
a smart little pig, who wants to herd
sheep, like the dogs on his farm. I was
watching a lone seagull, next to 2 ducks,
today. The gull calmly glided onto the
water, like a duck. I felt a sense of calm
when I saw this amusing scene. Lou

No, haven't seen the movie, Babe. Maybe I'll look it up. That's something you are privileged to see living near the ocean, a seagull and ducks together. Great.

Yes, seagulls can be a nuisance when they
are fighting with each other , or crows,
over food. But, when they glide along the
water, they are peaceful, in their natural
habitat. They are majestic in the distance,
under a clear blue sky over the ocean. I
do feel blessed to live here, but have the
    occasional "intermittent" dark clouds over
me, reminding me that Linda isn't here
physically to share my life. I came up
    with "intermittent" grief when watching
    a weather report about intermittent
sun & clouds. I aim for more sun, and
embrace the light, as Tom Zuba says. Lou

Thank you, Bernadine! Spring is finally
here! It's still cold, but sunny, and the
birds are chirping happily. Walks in
nature are so good for the soul. Lou

It happens every year. A pair of robins decide to build their nest near the birdfeeders and bully the other birds away. I always fire two warning shots first. I don’t think I could ever live in town. I’m very protective of my birdy buddies. Gary

Yep, this big guy comes by every day. Haven’t seen a mate but I’m sure it’s nearby. Fortunately he’s in and out and the little ones return to their happy play.
It’s the crows around here that run the neighborhood. ~B

Jack too, protective of our birds. They were spoiled and I miss them. He made sure they had water and plenty of food every day. I'm trying to continue Jack's love of birds. Our predators with new baby birds in nests are Blue Jays, so destructive. Beautiful but......

"The reality is that you will grieve forever. You will not 'get over' the loss of a loved one; you will learn to live with it. You will heal and you will rebuild yourself around the loss you have suffered. You will be whole again but, you will never be the same. Nor should you be the same, nor would you want to" - Elizabeth Kubler Ross and John Kessler.

The first year I was in shock losing my husband -- this year is harder to me. I am dating but so lonely. I miss companionship in the evenings after work. Has anyone else experienced this? I am afraid I will always be alone? It has been 14 months. Lorry in Fairhope, Alabama.

Lorry, I'm glad you stayed with us on GIC.
I wrote to you back in January, and said
how sorry I was for the death of your
husband, Neil. My wife, Linda, died
suddenly in front of me, after an illness.
    She was 68. I'm 72. I was in a state of
shock & had to see a grief counselor. We
were married 25 years, no children. Linda
    died almost 3 & a half years ago. I don't
want to get married again, but it would
be nice to have a female companion with
whom to cook meals, share a laugh, a
hug, and to take walks with me along
the beach. I live in the northern coast
of Massachusetts. The sea feeds my soul.
Some days, I'm OK. Other days, when I
see couples holding hands, or hugging,
I miss that. No one would ever replace
Linda, but I can't say never, to the
possibility of being with another woman.
When Linda became ill, she made me
promise to try to be happy. She shocked me
by saying that I should find another
woman. I joined GIC in July, 2021. The
people here are so kind & nonjudgemental.

Helena, I've heard the Poe quote before.
He was known for his scary stories, but
had a good heart. He knew first hand
what it was like when a soulmate died.
He wrote poems to one woman he had
    loved. Lou
