I lost my fiancee Sue to a sudden and totally unexpected stroke in January. I was with her when it happened. We were about to run errands when she collapsed just after getting into the passenger seat of the car. We’d been talking about normal things, like whether we should get carryout lunch from Jersey Mike’s, minutes before her shocking death. I think the trauma from witnessing her death overwhelmed me so much that I couldn’t really get to the grief at first. But now the grieving has set in deeply. So many things remind me of her. I did a crossword this morning and five or six different clues/answers conjured up some memory of Sue. Last week I broke down sobbing in a grocery store after seeing the apple fritters she used to like from that store. I feel isolated because I worry that my friends are tired of hearing about my grief. I’d like to connect with others who can relate to what I’m feeling.
