Music speaks to us. It touches our soul. It helps us visual life in living color. It helps clear that fog we might have in our mind.

Many tears of joy and sadness are shed as we take our journey through music. For those that are deaf, the beat can still be felt and understood.

Life is so precious. Too often in life people give up hope. Thankfully there are those among us who come to throw us a lifeline.
Though I am unable to share every heroic act that has happened in our lifetime, by sharing the ones I do, I just wish if we need it as a person, we reach out for that lifeline. We are worthy of saving.

Today I watched the tribute episode on Riverdale for Luke Perry. Very emotional, but it truly was a beautiful episode.
These next songs are for the one(s) we lost who will never be forgotten, but kept close to our hearts forever. Life is so precious.

Bryson Andres shows the audience how he created this haunting version of a cover via looping. The end results is a melody that is both captivating, and beautiful to listen to and enjoy. This is one of those times only music is spellbinding.

When this song came out I was a senior in high school in 1966. I hadn't much thought about what I was going to do with my life.

I would probably join the service after graduation. I can remember my math teacher arguing with me about not joining the service. Those were times that life was hard to get ahold of, at least for me.

But I will say that the service allowed me to go to college through the GI Bill. So I considered this my best path forward in life. I eventually received my degree.

After my 2nd stint in the service, I went back to school once more and studied for another degree, in Applied Science, which I received.

My brother was in Vietnam building communication lines for our soldiers. He was married when he volunteered rather than getting drafted.

Nadine my wife loved this song. I remember when I came back from my 2nd tour in Vietnam. I just ETS'd (End Term Service) out of my first stint in the service in 1971.

I landed at the Portand Maine International Jetport. I flagged a taxi and asked the driver to take me to Portland so I could catch a bus home.

He asked me where I was going. I told him. He said, "I am taking you home soldier". We talked on the ride and finally arrived in Auburn at my house. I reached for my wallet and he said, "This ride was free, God Bless and thank you for your service."

I thanked him and never ever forgot his kindness. I have tried to pay that kindness forward in my life to others.

Our first son was born. It was a wonderful time in our life. Almost 2 years pass.

Nadine and I, and our son, were now in Okinawa at the time of this song. We were there for 2 and half years. Beautiful place, amazing people, and it was full of tradition from Mainland Japan.

We had 4 Television channels, American Armed Forces Network and 3 Japanese channels. Our son loved all the animated cartoons on the Japanese channels. Nadine was into General Hospital, but the show was in a 6 month delay. When we returned to the U.S. she was missing 6 months of the show. She was not a happy camper.

While I was on leave, Nadine and I, and some friends, went to a concert with Dr. John in Augusta, ME. The armory where it was at had some type of power failure.
There were military trucks outside. They opened the side doors of the armory, hooked up generators, and the concert went on with lights shining on the stage.
It was the best concert we ever attended - one to remember.

I remember when I came back from Vietnam, took leave, and then reported to my next duty station just outside Petaluman, CA. @(Two Rock Ranch Station).

While there I met old friends and made new ones. Robert Jarboe and I were tight (good friends). We both agreed to 1049 - Military Personnel Transfer Request Form. We requested to go back to Vietnam, as California at that time was just too expensive on a soldiers pay.

We were acccepted, took leave, and both left to return to Vietnam. Bob however had got sick on the way. They medivac'd him to Japan and he was too sick to return.

So there I was, my friend, the last time I would see him, now absent and reporting alone at my next duty station. Life can be strange indeed.

I dedicate this song to Nadine, who I was writing to and decided she was the one I wanted to be with.

I had bought a 1969 Mach 1 Mustang ($3,300), through the Army and Air Force Exchange Service while in Vietnam. I picked it up in Burlington, NJ on my way home. (As a benefit, our pay was tax free while in a combat zone, and our license was in force for as long as we were in the service).

I returned home, met Nadine. Had many interesting days together and finally proposed to her in 1972 and was married on Dec 15th, by a friend who just happened to be a Justice of the Peace.

Wouldn't you know it, on the day we were married we had a heck of a snowstorm. The ride home was fun, scary, and one we both never forgot and joked about many times.

Our life together took many twists and turns. My tour to Korea, and then our move to Okinawa for two and a half years.

A beautiful country under Japanese control. During our time there, we saw gas prices rise overnight by 35 cents a gallon. There were so many amazing sights and people. Typhoons would stay over the island for days and then move away slowly.

We were there when they changed from the right side to the left side of the road driving. For that event, 6,000 motorcycle policeman were brought in from mainland Japan.

A cannon was fired at 6 am one morning, and then the motorcyclemen would lead us through each road, teaching us how to change lanes, and turn into the correct lane. It was a sight that was amazing to behold.

I will say that my time in the service was amazing. Sure there were hard times, seeing friends leave, others leave this Earth, and still all the different moves.
The only regret I have is that sometimes life is too short.

Sometimes all your hopes and dreams don't come true. There are times you don't accomplish all you want. The only thing that matters the most is, your effort, and don't give up if at all possible.

I remember one soldier from Korea who was given a coat intended for me. He personally delivered it to me back stateside. Men and women soldiers are a special breed. They look out for one another.

I salute and admire them. and will never forget my brothers and sisters in the military. I was proud to have served.

I was stationed at Ft. George G Meade. I worked inside the National Security Agency. It was a combination of all branches of service and civilians.

At first I worked rotating shifts, so sleep was an elusive thing at times. Eventually I was moved to a straight day shift. With a family that was a bonus.

Back then the cost of living was expensive. Nadine had a job at a computer store in the bookkeeping department.

On the weekends I would work for E. I. Kane. Inc., a moving company. We would go to all the major government buildings, because of our military clearances, and do easy moves with 2 and 4 wheel dollies. Eventually our area of work included Washington, D.C. and then also Virginia. The money was awesome. It came in real handy.

I then went to work after my day shift for a computer chain. Training as a future District manager, as I was planned on getting out of the service. So I would have roughly 16 hour days, 6 days a week. Inventory days were on Sundays, man did I detest those days.

I was at the NSA building working one day. My wife called me, all excitedly and told me the main store (office) had burned completely to the ground overnight.

What can you say, you see your future plans flying out the door. I was leaving the service soon and my ideal job looked grim. The day I left service I was still asked to take the full time job at the computer chain. Nadine and I thought long and hard about it, we both decided it was not in our best interest anymore.

My mind raced, two sons, a wife and an uncertain future ahead. So I declined. We moved back to Maine, and there our journeys in life continued on.

Nadine went to work for a payroll company. She eventually worked her way up to a VP position. She started in Auburn, ME., then onto Danvers, MA., and eventually Weston, Fl. Nadine had an amazing mind.

You could only admire her skillset. Her writing ability was one for the ages. I mean everyone would ask her for help to write, which included peers and people all the way up to the president of the company and the IRS.

She wished to eventually write books, but life is so hard to control sometimes, you just have to roll with all the changes. That dream of hers never came true.

I can remember working so many different jobs. Digging ditches and construction for the city of Portland. Selling things as a salesman, not very appealing to me. Working as an accountant from my minor in college.

In between all this my dad told me of his cancer. He asked me, (remember I had an older sister, older brother and another sister) to take care of mom. I gave him my word and eventually did so. Finally mom became too sick and was moved into a hospital where she eventually passed on.

Times were tough. The first accountant job I tried they had major losses from a disease to their chickens. I worked for another similar poultry farm as an accountant. I could see and sense, that bean counting was not gonna be my future, so I left and looked elsewhere. Eventually I ended up working for an electronics component manufacturer.

With all the twists and turns life was throwing at us, I had a bad habit of eating too fast and not chewing my food good enough. Three times I ended up choking.

Nadine performed the Heimlich maneuver on me each time and saved me. However, the last time, I ended up in the emergency room and soon learned I needed my gallbladder out and had developed Barrett's Esophagus.

When we were living in Maryland, Nadine went to nursing school (she already had a 4 year degree), after our youngest son Christopher stopped breathing one day. An ambulance was called. He was gonna be ok. It was after this she went to nursing school.

But Nadine was profoundly affected by how helpless she felt during that event. She completed that program in nursing at Anne Arundel Community College. She was trained in the Baltimore General Hospital emergency room area.

Finally I developed panic attacks and was treated and eventually healed. I have never had another panic attack, thankfully. All I can say, wow life had made some hard pitfalls for us to overcome, but with my amazing wife, we finally found our footing, or so I thought.

Life is funny at times. We were at Walt Disney World in Florida. I am artistic by nature and admired all the beautiful sights there. I remember looking at something that caught my eye, and said I sure wish we lived in Florida.

As luck would have it, Nadine was offered a Vice President position for CompuPay in Miramar, Florida. Of course she accepted. We moved, rented for months until we finally moved to Weston, Florida.

We lived in Florida for 10 plus years. As time passed, Nadine would become sick so many times. The doctors never seemed to find a definitive answer at the Cleveland Clinic of Weston, Florida.

We had a cat my youngest son loved. He brought it home one day after football practice. He named it Fumdinger. Fumdinger lived with us for 12 years, but she eventually developed cancer and passed away there in Florida.

So that was the first part of our family we were no longer with. Isn't it strange how an animal gets under your skin and moves into your heart.

All of us, except for Nadine, didn't get sick except for the trips to the dentist. :) I will say the climate was quite a change from Maine.

Though i share these personal moments with you I wish for you to realize they are a part of my life. I will never forget and don't mind telling you of these moments.
Else how can I move on in life if I can't think back and shed a heartfelt tear or two. Sure there will be regrets and things I wish I had done differently.

While living in Maryland we didn't stay home. We visited Washington, D.C and all the famous buildings there. The museums, the zoo, the theatres, the monuments and even had a chance to go to Fords Theatre and see 'Bell, Book & Candle', featuring Barnard Hughes.

I took so many pictures and have a dozen boxes of slides. We attended a Washington Capital hockey game in Landover, MD. I remember while working for the computer chain I sold a MacIntosh computer to the coach of the Washington Capitals hockey team.

Lastly, Nadine and my sons visited Waterworks in Baltimore. The boys got to meet and greet many stars.

We went to Kings Dominion, Busch Garden and so many sights, and even rode all the way to Hershey Park in Pennsylvania. I would say our family had many joyous days together.

While living in Florida we enjoyed so many locations. We went across the 7 mile bridge, then onto Key West where Ernest Hemingway lived.

We visited SeaWorld, Ripley's Believe it or Not museum, Universal, and of course many trips to Walt Disney World. We attended the Halloween Horror Nights, in short, we didn't stay still, we enjoyed as much of Florida as we could.

Nadine and I took a six day cruise by Carnival Cruise Lines that took us to Cozumel, Mexico. We enjoyed all the shopping there. The margaritas were huge, and delicious, as was the guacamole. We literally almost missed our cruise ship departure, as we were feeling our drinks a bit much.

Sometimes songs try to make us see the future. I imagine what becomes of us all, it really is up to us. This song is nothing more than conjecture. Perhaps or perhaps not!

As you grow in life. How many dreams did you create for what you wished would be. Who wouldn't want to be Peter Pan and fly. Who wouldn't want superpowers and save so many people reaching out. Who wouldn't want to dream away all your sorrows and solve all your problems we face in life. The reality is, we can wish, but we must understand life comes at a cost.

When we dream, life is talking to us. It is trying to awaken us to something good, bad or what could be. My dad wrote a book on numerology and astrology. I think after what he experienced in WW2 and life, made him take a hard look back. What he came up with is anyone's guess.

When I grew up, dad had a job that took him away from us 5 days a week. Mom must have been so lonely, even with us children by her side. We looked forward to those Friday nights when he returned, and hated those Sunday nights when he drove to his next job.

People do what they must to protect those that they love. As I grew, I resented his absence, but as life became all to aware to me I finally realized my dad had sacrificed his happiness for us, his family. I am sure he had many sad nights. He truly was a man with conviction. God, I miss him so much.

I had a paper route as a kid. I would rise at roughly 4 am to deliver those papers, either on foot in bad weather or with a bike. Eventually there were days when my older sister started helping me. She was an angel.

We loved paper collection time at Christmas. People were generous with those tips then. My sister and me would share the money, and buy food for the family and supplies to use for school.

You get to learn a lot about people and their families on a paper route. It was as if they allowed you to glimpse into their lives. I could sense we (my family) were not alone in our loneliness at times. So you appreciated more what you had. There were so many other people in much more need than us.

    Men and women are enigmas.

    But! A Poem for us:

    'No man is an island,
    Entire of itself,
Every man is a piece of the continent,
    A part of the main.
If a clod be washed away by the sea,
    Europe is the less.
As well as if a promontory were.
As well as if a manor of thy friend's
    Or of thine own were:
    Any man's death diminishes me,
Because I am involved in mankind,
    And therefore never send to know for whom the bell tolls;
    It tolls for thee. '

You can call me a dreamer. Someone who believes in you and me. Someone who lives for what wonders tomorrow might bring.

Wait! This is all of our future. Tomorrow is what we make it. Sure we can have many views. Shed many tears, but if we can just take that one step towards each other, we can live in peace.

I am sure, at some point in life something has seemed like the hardest thing to overcome. I just wish, we would all take a breath and give TIME a chance to heal us all.

I remember buying my first television and radio with paper route money. The radio was especially fun to listen to on them snowy mornings hoping school was cancelled. I loved all the songs the radio played. I would say my appreciation for music developed at that time.

I loved watching my television. All the science fiction shows. All the game shows. All the family shows. The news was the most interesting in those days. You could hear encouraging news that made you happy and look forward in life.

As I grew the news started to change. No longer was it good news, but bad news started as well. As time passed, I noticed the bad started to overshadow the good. No longer could you turn on the news and get cheered up, but you were now faced with an uncertain future that was changing too fast.

    Life:
Take your path forward with hope, your eyes open, and give your inspiration to others. Think how gratifying it is to help another in need. You can't put a value on that, but I will bet you can see how you might bring happiness to another, and swell with pride inside yourself.

Life is what we make of it. Though we can't control it, how we react to it is up to us. Loss is a road we will all eventually travel in life.

Don't let it stop you from moving forward. Don't forget that loss, but rather accept it, as extremely hard as it may be. Reach out to someone. There are many out there who understand.

Perhaps we each have memories from the past we wish to bury. To me, I have learned dismissing those difficult ones can come back to haunt you later in life.

What I am saying is, hurt is indeed difficult to overcome and deal with. If you just seek out and share, someone may help you either live with it healthfully, or help you learn how to face and solve those bad times in your life.

Boring is good also. It means nothing significant has happened that captured our attention. How many times in life have you looked back and wondered, what if? Nothing wrong with that at all.

I think back of all the times when I was on road on a long trip for the moving company Earl W. Noyes & Sons. You would sit in the back of the huge truck cab with the crew.

Trips were long, boring and sometimes would take the good part of the day. So you would find a motel that was close to the jobsite. Then as you wake the next day you head to the house. Take all day to load the truck with one trailer or even another attached to it. By nights end, your back might be hurting so you sleep on the floor to tolerate the pain.

The movers would always throw away so many things and offer them to us. Liquor, paintings, or other items they no longer wanted. Some would even give us cash. I must say you would be amazed at how generous people can be.

When we moved military people the items that were back breakers were triple dressers. Why, because you don't pack the items in boxes in those dressers. So in essence they weigh amazingly heavy. When you reach down to lift, your knees crack, like you would snap knuckles. By the time it gets loaded in the truck you are happy that is over.

Other moves that were tedious. Tall apartment buildings with no workable elevators. So by the time the job is finished it feels like you have climbed and ascended a million stairs. If there were 'Stairways to Hell' this would be at the top of my list.

I remember one set of stairs. I was descending with a nightstand in my arms. The stair tread came off. I slid on my backside down the stairs. But, I did not drop the nightstand.

Even though the job could be tough, the crew and driver were always close and we all joked with one another. I eventually left this job to return to the service, since my wife was pregnant.

I don't usually put two melodies of the same song together. Today is an exception. I hope you like it. This beautiful melody is easy to visualize the original artist singing it.

Music can be so amazing. All the feelings it brings forth. Life would have been so one dimensional for me without it.

I look back to my college days. I was given an apartment for Nadine and I. It was up to me to oversee all the apartments in all the various buildings on site. If any apartments needed maintenance I fixed it.

Even though I was taking music appreciation in college, classical and such. My real tastes were all the rock music and songs with stories.

One particular tenant, knocked on my door one day. She lived directly above us. I opened the door, she said, " I would like you to have this album". She gave me this, ' Bach: Toccata and Fugue in D Minor'. I thanked her, she left, and I never really got it at that point in my life. It is funny as you grow, and learn, your musical tastes change.

Now I will share the original artist singing her song. When I think of all the songs in my life I have experienced. God, the emotions they have brought to me were wonderful.

They have helped me heal inside. They have made me happy. I have shed many tears. I have loved sharing my music with all the people I interacted with in life.

Whenever I went someplace to be with others I always had some albums I wanted to share with them. I guess I was trying to show them, how my emotions were evolving and hoped they would get it. We all need music and the moods they put us in.

As you start to become an adult, you are searching to find yourself. I say, you need this time to experience life.

Don't let others make your decisions, you can only grow and learn by making them yourself. Accept it when you're wrong, and rejoice when you're right.

No one will fault you for walking on your own two feet. Never forget we are human. Just don't be afraid to take that first step. What is in your heart and mind is what is the most important.

Never be afraid to ask for forgiveness. We are all fallible.

I remember the 60's and 70's. The world was changing so much. Discord was rising, many songs were born out of this. Peace symbols were so prevalent and becoming the norm.

Free love was not unusual. Long hair, beads, and colorful Tie-Dyes were all over the place. Concerts were huge. This was the birth of the time of mass crowd participation. Growing up in this time was hard to understand at times.

I remember my brother telling me of his trip to Vietnam. He was on a ship over the ocean. It took him well over 30 days to make the trip.

He told me of all the bad, sickness, broken bones from huge wave mishaps or falling from a bunk to the floor below which might be 15 feet below or more. After him telling me of all his misadventures on that ship, I look back and realized how lucky I was to have flown there two years after his return. I believe I made out better.

I also remember all them flights throughout my time in the service. Long waits at airports sometimes that seemed forever. Airports where the food centers were closed, and the bathrooms were locked. Many enterprising soldiers found a way for us all to get food, and open the bathrooms for us.

One of the things the airlines gave us for the long flight from the Pacific side of the U.S to Guam, Wake, Philippines and then onto Vietnam was twinkies and a milk.
I guess it was to help us as we crossed the international dateline to help prevent jetlag from setting in and adjusting to the new time zones we were now coming into.

I don't remember sleeping much on the way. I was too excited not knowing what lied ahead. When we finally landed in Tan Son Nhut Air Base and they shutdown the engines, the hot air from outside hit us. It was as if your breath was taken away.

As I said, I will be writing items out of sequence. The timeline accuracy isn't as important as the message, at least to me.

During my first tour in Vietnam from September of 1968 to September of 1969, my first unit location was Chu Lai, Vietnam - 328th RR Home. I spent roughly 3 months there.

At that point, I was transferred to the 372nd RADIO RESEARCH COMPANY - CU CHI. I remember both locations well. I met many new friends there. I was asked to extend for promotion, but declined.

We all would take one big pill a day to help overcome or prevent Malaria. In Cu Chi, we would get guard duty I believe every 3 months or so.

Until you sit behind an M-60 machine gun, or looking out into the distance through a starlight scope for possible enemy movement you realize how scary life can be. At times you could see movement in the distance, but unless you were attacked you were not given the ok to fire.

All of the soldiers were cohesive. I also remember the monsoon season. It was so warm, and your clothes would stick to your skin. Malaria was easy to catch and Montezuma's revenge got me several times due to either the water, lack of eating, lack of sleep or just stress in general.

It was not unusual to take showers outdoors day or night, since we were all men, in the heavy monsoon rain. The sad part was, after you shaved, and then went indoors to dry. You put your jungle fatigues back on, laced up your boots, and put your blouser bands on to hold the bottom of your pants tight. Then it did not take long for the heat to make you all sweaty again.

I even was sent to Saigon during the monsoon season to pick up a new jeep for the basecamp. We were sent there in deuce and halves (big heavy trucks).

The drive back to Cu Chi was like a convoy, with so many various type vehicles having been acquired. Along the way, luckily we weren't attacked. However, as usual it rained so darn long and heavy that you actually didn't mind sitting in water on your seat. It actually was refreshing being completely soaked.

Man, all the water buffalos along the way. Rice paddies were everywhere, and the mamasans were there in the fields tending the crops.

This song expresses our love so profoundly.

During my 2nd tour, July of 1970 to July of 1971, I was sent to Nha Trang, Vietnam, the 330RR Company. This was next to the South China Sea. We worked 12 hour shifts every day for the entire tour, no days off, unless you had a leave or a pass.

Working everyday wasn't no big deal, it kept your mind off bad things. This is the location of the enlisted men's club and the mailroom table I mentioned on a previous days post.

We actually lived in nicely constructed barracks at this location. Our bunkers, were nicely fortified between the barracks and the basketball court. In short, compared to my first tour, this was a lot nicer.

As my tour was ending I was given the opportunity to reenlist and receive $10,000 tax free, and have my picture taken for the Army Times, or to get out of the service 4 months before my enlistment ended. I chose the latter.

Thus these were my two tours in Vietnam. Sure I have many other things I could mention about Vietnam. If I remember something worthy and on the happier side I will write about it later.

I remember being on police call in basic training in October of 1967. We had just come out of eating from the mess hall. The Drill Sergeant had told us, smoke them if you got them, and take a break. Alright the rest of you, police up the ground.

The next available time I had, I went to the PX and purchased a carton of cigarettes. Never having smoked in my life, I now started up. I never gave it another thought for years.

In Vietnam in 1968 a carton of cigarettes was roughly $1.50, meaning fifteen cents a pack. So it now supported my foolish addiction. I use to trade my liquor rations for soda rations. By the end of my first tour I had not yet starting drinking, I was still a peach fuzz kid at heart.

By my second tour my friends and coworkers eventually talked me into having my first drink. It wasn't bad, a rum, with coke mixed in. By the time I had consumed 25 of them I sort of went to sleep.

Over the years my sons, especially my youngest would beg me to stop smoking. I had developed a cough. I will admit it did concern me.

I think I tried to stop smoking 6 or 7 times, but always convinced myself it helped keep my weight down, or there was nothing like a cigarette after a meal. So you could say, I was at times my own worst enemy for the most foolish of reasons.

Well I am happy to say I stopped smoking for the final time just before I left the service in January of 1985. Today my lungs are clear, but I will admit it took a toll on my teeth over time. Just a little over a week ago, I finally received my new teeth and that smile I had lost as a foolish young man was finally back.

I eventually stopped drinking also, as I noticed Nadine being too sick at times. That was sometime in the early 2000's.

    {NOTE: I am not saying that you shouldn't drink or smoke. What I am saying is, it is a personal choice that is up to each of us. To me I needed to change.}

I never had the slightest inclination to ever celebrate with a drink ever again. I finally learned to cope with my inside voice to do so many ridiculous things.

When I previously said in another post, look at yourself in the mirror - that came from my own heart and past life experiences.

We are all capable of error, but as I learned, we are also able to take stock of ourselves and work towards a better life. Don't be afraid to make those mistakes. All you have to do when that happens is forgive yourself.

I could go on and on of the losses I had experienced. I guess what I am doing by sharing some of this with you is because I want you to realize, that even though those loses were heartbreaking, I was able to accept it and live my life. I just never let none of them losses leave my heart and mind.

One of the loneliest times of loss is not being able to talk of it. Having to hide it deep inside you. You know you are hurting with those memories and all you want to do is remember them. I want to tell all of you. Never stop remembering, and disregard those who wish to just forget.

I have shared many hugs, many words and many memories. I remember being Okinawa on shift and I was called to the phonebooth. The Red Cross was on the line telling me my grandfather had finally passed. Without my coworkers present to help pick me up I don't think I would have recovered.

I had shared all my summers with him as I grew up. I have so many memories with him and my grandmother.

Sure some losses hit us harder than others. We are who we are, and we still know that those people were important to us, either as a loved one, a friend, or someone we knew.

How each of us grieve has no rules. Our reaction to that loss though it may different than another's, is how we start to come to the enormity of that loss. There is no time limit to healing. Just know, others understand you might need space and time.

In the military, periodically we would go on trips with our team members, camping, white water rafting, gatherings at the campfire at night. We would talk, there with loved ones and those we worked with.

We would share so many stories with one another. It didn't matter how personal it was. At those moments, we were all fragile, looking out for one another.

Some stories were sad, others happy, still others were of our hopes and dreams and what we wished for our future.

No one, saw race, religion, age, gender as a stumbling block. We were all just people, together with one another giving a piece of ourselves to everyone.

When you think of the one you lost. You are looking back, perhaps wondering if you might have done something different. Sorrow is awful. We tend to keep that deep inside us, as if it were too valuable to let go, for fear we might forget the one we loved.

I look back over the years since my wife's passing, and so many thoughts rush through my head. I beat myself up for what could I have done differently in my life to have changed the outcome. I know as you go from sorrow to regret, you might end up blaming yourself.

I now realize, life though amazing as it is, there are no paths we can take to undo what has become. My first step in my own recovery was to be able to stand at her grave and realize it wasn't anything I did, it was just fate stepping in and taking control of her life.

I have read so much. Heard so much. Viewed so many movies, stories, videos and what not of so many people who have broken hearts and can't get beyond the grief.

What I now know is that tears are ok, feelings don't have to be hidden, and people will accept you no less now than in the past. Peace of mind can be elusive. We try so many things to make it better, but in the end all you have to do is accept that loss, in order to start healing.

What can I say about Korea. It was a year in my life in the military. A lot of the GI's would be almost broke before or by the middle of month.

I use to wait till after the 15th of the month to go into town (Pyeongtaek) and shop. Merchants were superstitious. If you were the first person to walk into their shop for the day, they believed they needed to sell you something.

So I would find what I liked from previous visits, if they were still there of course, and haggle the price down until I was satisfied and buy it. Then take the items to the mailroom, and get them ready for shipping back stateside.

Some of my finds: Full size mink blanket, Wilson baseball glove, sneakers, black pearl ring for Nadine and white pearl earrings, and lastly a members only jacket and a custom made suit.

When I arrived in BWI airport I remember a man trying to buy the jacket right off my back for a ridiculous amount of money. No way did I sell it.

Our company asked for volunteers to be in a Korean movie about:

    Kim Duk-Koo

Kim Duk-Koo (January 8, 1959 – November 18, 1982) was a South Korean boxer who died following a world championship boxing match against Ray Mancini.

The American boxer was one of our soldiers. We were extras that were bused to the stadium and sat in the stands during all the cuts scenes taken of the fight.

Then about 4 of us were picked (me included, wearing my members only jacket) to climb into ring, slowly walk through, look at the boxer on the floor, and exit the ring. We each received about $35 in Korean currency for the event, a Korean meal, and a bus ride back.

    Last Post 2 of 2

Florida was good and bad. Within the first two months we read of 3 people being taken and killed by alligators as they came to close to a body of water. Pets being killed. Sad indeed.

Our house was near the Florida Everglades. Periodically a fire would spread from there and the winds would carry the smell and last so long. So you had to keep you doors and windows closed- central air was a necessity.

During our 10 plus years there, gas had gone all the way up to $5 a gallon. Those were unbelievable times.

I was on jury duty twice, one of the trials lasted 6 weeks. The drive each day, to and from was long, bumper to bumper at times and you could easily witness accidents, people losing it over the congestion, or just laying on their horn. As if that was going to get the line moving.

On the way in, parking was at a premium during my 6 week jury duty trial. If you missed getting there early enough to park in the courthouse garage, you would have to find private parking lot for various prices.

I had to chuckled with some of the lame excuses people gave for not being able to serve on jury duty. I can't afford a babysitter. My husband won't let me serve. I am a baker and my workplace would close without me. I am too biased to judge fairly. I don't believe in our jury duty and why I am here, the list of reasons were endless.

In short, with over a couple hundred people being interviewed for the 6 week trial, you would see the crowd dwindling day by day as we watched. I will bet people took mental notes on what they were gonna say when it came time for them to be interviewed.

I remember people saying, oh yeah they are gonna pick you. How right they were.

Our central air died on us. It cost us $5500 to replace it. The crazy thing, it happened to us again during our last month there. You never realize how awful night can be until you have no air conditioning in the summertime.

Our pool skimmer had to be replaced three times at a cost of $500 each time. When it rained our pool would overflow, turn the water brownish from the mulch, and we had to spend loads of money on chemicals to rebalance it. The motor for the pool air circulation had to be replaced 3 times, again to a total of a couple of thousand.

We were in a gated community with a rulebook of about 50 plus pages. Every so often we would have inspectors come by and ticket us for one thing and another. If you didn't fix it within a reasonable time you were fined so much per day.

I would say Key West was an amazing place to visit. However, during our two trips there the roads were under construction and the dust in the air was ridiculous. So it was a good thing our air conditioner worked in the car.

We found the southernmost point of the U.S. there. Took a carriage tour ride and the famous landmarks. The pier always had entertainers. There were so many cats there that you would think it was a sanctuary for them.

The view was amazing. The shops and restaurants were varied and if you had an inkling for a certain type of drink, food, or whatever you were able to find it.

Nadine and I discovered Key Lime pie. Yep, out of this world delicious.

I remember Ripley's Believe it or Not museum. I also had visited another of those in San Franciso, on Fisherman's Wharf.

If you have never had the pleasure to go inside one. It is worth your time and effort. Like the log cabin built with a million pennies. The largest supposed shoe in the world. Pictures that would make you scoff in disbelief. It was time well spent.

Healthcare. In Miramar our first location, it was not unusual to have a scheduled appointment and then for 4 hours or more to finally be seen. Finally when we moved to Weston, at least the wait time was much lessor.

The parking lot for Cleveland Clinic was huge. So they had shuttle buses moving through the area to pick people up. Depending up your health, and prevailing heat that was a Godsend. Because there are so many people that need to be seen they might call you and reschedule.

Cars were easy to register and insure. There were so many cars with darkened windows that it was impossible to see inside, even with sunglasses on a bright shiny day.

It was actually an unreal feeling wondering who was inside. It must be tough for law enforcement when they encounter those blackened windowed vehicles.

I would recommend good pair of sunglasses to cut the reflections off all the bright surfaces and glimmer on the waterways.

But I will say. Florida is ok in my book. So much to see. So much to do. If you need something done it is easy to find help.

We were lucky during our time in Florida. We never experienced a hurricane. We lived near the east coast of Florida, and my brother lived on the west coast. I would say weather wise, the west coast is the safest.
