I am no writer but this was a way for me to get my feelings out and I felt safe to share here as opposed to anywhere else or to anyone else. I lost my husband 3-8-21.

The Day the Sun Went Black

I never thought I would see the day the sun went black before my eyes,
A day where my heart was torn -
    My soul shattered to pieces,
With a background of dark skies.

When I call to you, do you hear me? Do you see me when I cry?
Is there pain inside your brokenness,
Or are you healed, and free to fly?

There is an emptiness inside me, that nothing can ever refill,
    The place you left
    When your body was shattered;
The day the earth stood still.

And as the storm proceeded, with no heed to my despair,
    I was swept into a loneliness -
A darkness with which there is nothing to compare.

When two souls were one, does death break that bond?
Will you even know who I am
When my time is called upon?
Or when I pass will you be there waiting as if we were never parted?
Will it be the sweet reunion that I long for, a dream that won’t be thwarted?

Are you stuck, as some would call it,
Because you left in such a tragedy.
Or are you flying with the angels – your soul completely free?

I feel I’ll never know the answers to the brokenness inside,
That my emptiness will deepen with each day that goes by.
I’ll never feel so wanted or loved so deep again.
Please, give me a sign so my soul will not upend.

Our lives will never be the same as before this ghastly tragedy.
I hope you’re happy where you are, and that you are set free.
If I could make any wish, I would wish you back.
So we could live our lives again, before the sun went black.

That was absolutely beautiful. You are truly gifted. Your words reached into my heart and pulled out the tears. Please keep writing. Writing and music kept me going after my Janet passed. It can do the same for you. I am deeply sorry for your loss. I am sure that your words have already helped someone in need.

May I have your permission to share this lovely tribute to your husband with others? I would like to send it to my Hospice Grief Counselor. (Joanie). Joanie is the one who encouraged me to write.
I read your poem again and cried...again.

Very lovely. I've found that writing helps me, too. Post this on a tribute page, if you haven't already. I wrote a poem about my queen that you will find there if you are interested. Hang in there. Peace
