Bill just passed away on March 30 of this year of heart problems. Would you please all join me in prayer for him and his family.
    Thank you.

You knew Ella Fitzgerald? That is amazing! She was musical perfection. Colleen and I used to love listening to her.

What, to me.was even more amazing, is what a kind, humble and gracious human being she was. Her demands we’re practically non-existent. Her catering demands consisted of cold-cuts and Tab Cola. And, she didn’t’ like to speak for awhile before her performance. She was a wonderful person. Her ex, the world class bassist, Ray Brown was the same type of human being, and a friend. Sadly, diabetes took
    her from us.

God it’s hard spending Easter without Colleen. First one in 35 years. Miss you.

That’s another difficult part of this process. You’re going to have these “trigger days” anniversaries, birthdays, holidays or other days and places that may trigger memories. Janet was always in charge of Easter dinner. (Today was the first Easter we have ever been apart)
On next Friday it will mark the sixth month since Janet passed. I understand your feelings and I will pray for you to find peace. I really feel for you.
    God Bless.

Thank you for what you wrote. Six months- you’re going through the first Easter too! When I finally “took it all in” it was unbearable.

We are kindred spirits and I hope you find some answers and some peace through this horrible ordeal.
God, in his/her wisdom must have a reason, or plan, for us all. There has to be a good reason for all this pain.
    Someday we’ll understand It all.

Here’s a student from my AP music theory class. The class is in traditional harmony and four part writing. Kai has more of a jazz mindset to harmony. He’s 15 years old, listens to Thelonious Monk- can play it right off the recording.
In this YouTube link he’s playing “Blue Monk”

Mind if I pass that reply on to Kai?

Not at all. I just hope that he continues to keep working and exploring. Check out Kai Winding. You might discover some new influences.

He’s gotta figure out who he is and what he wants to express. I know, easy to say.....
He has facility and musical sense- all means to an end.

Another very talented artist who you might
Have check out is Joanne Brackeen who I first met when she was playing a gig with Stan Getz when she was in her 20’s.
She has remained one of my very favorite pianists. Super talented and precise on her interpretation. I think she is on utube playing Bewitched Bothered and Bewildered. A fantastic technician .

I just listened to Kai Winding playing “Loverman”. I see what you mean. He is in every single note he plays.

His success just amplifies the popularity of jazz throughout the world. Kai Winding is from Denmark. I thought Joanne Brackeen’s chord play might be of interest to Kai.

Joe. I would like to compliment and salute you on the remarkable job that you are doing with your students. Your encouragement for them to explore new vistas and your open mind regarding examining new ideas is admirable.
You are an excellent teacher. We need more people
In our schools who have your attributes.
