In Every Death There Is a Birth

I was remembering lately my last few moments with my Mom and it kept making me think it was a birth for her. I recall her looking at me and I said God loves you as her physical body was getting ready to release her spirit. Then they gave her so much morphine there was not a connection anymore. Then she was simply not there anymore, she transformed into her spiritual body. I was plunged into deep waters having grief attacks and couldn't eat. My only lifeline being my faith in Jesus, and I believe He led me to Grief in Common so I could type and get it out and received so many kind responses. Without Jesus, my grief would have been insurmountable. But God's truths buoyed me up, bringing peace and strength. This verse helped me so much “Blessed are those who mourn, for they will be comforted” (Matthew 5:4).

Another balm that has soothed my grief is a revelation I received while reading this question in Luke: “Why seek ye the living among the dead?” While this may seem like an odd verse to find comfort in, to me, it is a reminder that my family still lives, though not in the way I wish they did. I do not feel closer to Mom when I visit the pond where her ashes are with my father and brother, beautiful as it is, because her spirit is not there. I cannot find her living spirit among the dead. At a funeral in 1875, Wilford Woodruff testified, “In every death there is a birth; the spirit leaves the body dead to us and passes to the other side of the veil alive to that great and noble company that are also working for the accomplishment of the purposes of God, in the redemption and salvation of a fallen world.” When I consider that a tearful farewell on earth is a joyful reunion and a celebration of life on the other side of the veil, peace softens my sorrow.

Because of Jesus, I have hope for the future. Because of Him, I know that I will get to hug and laugh with my Mom again and Father and brother and all the fur babies along the way. And I know that in the meantime, my Mom is experiencing a new birth, her spirit more alive than ever as she lives with God in eternity.

So beautifully said. I love the verse you have chosen and the way you have seen it concerning our loved ones.
I agree with everything you said. Jesus is my lifeline too and I too feel the grief would be unbearable and insurmountable withou Him.
You have much to share in such a special way. You must be a very special person.
